THE HISTORY OF THE "BISBALENC" CAKE

In 1932, Modest Sans i Viñas, in his first cake shop in La Bisbal, created a dessert made with puff pastry, vermicelli, sugar and pine seeds, which he called "Bisbalenc". Today it is made by the creator's son and grandson, with the same recipe and the same artisanal quality as in the beginning.

Later on, they added the marzipan type, to get two different flavours, different enough to satisfy different tastes. This product had very interesting characteristics: it kept for one whole week without refrigeration, could be transported easily and had an smooth flavour that most people liked.

Very soon it had a lot of success with the villagers and people in the entire region, but it really became a success with the advent of tourism in the 50s. Since then, via the people who visit us, the "Bisbalenc"® cake has come to be known in many places of Europe and even across the Atlantic.

THE CREATOR

Modest Sans i Viñas was born in 1902 in a country house in Fallines, close to Cervià de Ter - Girona. He had a lot of brothers and sisters. When he was 13 his father started to teach him the art of cakemaking in Figueres. After having worked in Girona, Alcoi, France and Santa Coloma he settled down in La Bisbal in 1927. In 1932 he tried to advance the taste of the times by creating the "Bisbalenc"® cake.

IDEAL FOR ANY OCASION

Thanks to its flavours and characteristics, it is suitable for many occasions, in any type of celebration, and in any meal. As it doesn't have to be kept cold, it can be eaten in summer and in winter. Although it can go with any drink, the best options are "moscatells" and "garnatxes".
It can be transported easily and is kept in special packaging. This enables it to travel to any corner of Europe.
